Perhaps god needed a      football team in heaven?
Sept 11 1971

On September 11, 1971 a terrible tragedy struck the small western Colorado town of Gunnison as the Gunnison Junior Varsity Team plunged off of Monarch Pass.

The coach , 28 year old L.D. Floyd and eight of the team lost their lives.

These young men are memorialized by a beautiful stone that marks their graves at the Gunnison Cemetery, just east of Gunnison on Highway 50.
